Soft Tissue Therapy
WHAT IS SOFT TISSUE THERAPY?
The body responds to injury by increasing circulation to the area of trauma in order to control damage and remove the irritant.
Fibrous tissue rushes to the injured area. The fibrous tissue generated in the repair process produces a fibrous scar in the soft tissue that is structurally deficient.
While the scar tissue itself is not painful, it does tend to limit range of motion, and the ongoing stiffness may contribute to back pain or neck pain.
Soft tissue therapy is a deep muscle massage that is used to help relieve pain, tension and reduce scar tissue. This is often used prior to an adjustment to help the patient relax.
This therapy is performed by warming the muscle in question then applying pressure with the hands or fingers and sliding along the muscle fibers or in a cross wise direction.
Chiropractic massage is an excellent method for improving overall health and musculoskeletal efficiency.
Massage has a number of beneficial effects on the body and the mind. Some of these include removal of toxins that can build up in the muscles of the body, increased circulation, and increased flexibility in not only the muscles, but also the connective tissue within the body.
Massage also can help with muscle spasms plus soft tissue injuries by increasing the movement and reducing the overall recovery time. Massage helps the body in the healing process.
