    What are sports injuries?

Sports injuries occur as a result of participation in athletic activities. Injuries in this category are most prevalent in contact sports such as hockey, rugby, and football.

    What causes sports injuries?

Sports injuries can happen to anyone. Most people have experienced minor injuries, such as an ankle sprain or a pulled muscle. Some injuries, such as tennis elbow, are due to overuse. Others, such as a concussion, are due to trauma. Some causes of sports injuries may be faulty equipment, improper warming up, or trying to increase your activity level too quickly. There are many other causes of injuries. Rest and ice may be sufficient treatment for minor injuries, but when in doubt, see your doctor.

    Common sports injuries are:

    • Runner's knee
    • Tennis elbow
    • Tendonitis
    • Limited range of motion

A sports injury can linger for most of a person's life, if not treated correctly. With proper excercise, regular adjustments, and the right type of massage, these affects of these injuries can lessen and in some cases, disappear.

A person suffering from a sports injury make experience neck pain, soreness of the joints, frequent inflammation of ankles, wrists, or knees, and/ or chronic widespread pain all over the body.

The pain may affect daily activity.

Your doctor of chiropractic will ask questions about your symptoms. She may ask specific questions about what sports you have been involved in and what type of activities accompany these sports. You’ll be asked to describe your pain and to explain when the pain began, how often you have the pain and what activities lessen or intensify the pain.

Your doctor of chiropractic will also do physical exams. In the physical exam, she will observe your posture, range of motion, and physical condition, noting movement that causes pain.
Finally the doctor will arrive at a diagnosis and treatment will begin that first visit.

For most people, injuries that are caused by sports overuse can be treated by proper massage, stretching and prescribed exercises. Your doctor of chiropractic may also recommend hot/ cold remedies and topical solutions.

Chiropractic offers a non-invasive (non-surgical), drug-free treatment option. The goal of chiropractic care is to restore movement, thereby improving function while decreasing pain and inflammation.
